How We Calculate This

Trying alternative team-bonding solutions can feel like a risk. We conducted hands-on studies to prove this is a safe bet.

Here’s how we figure it: based on average results over just 4 to 8 sessions with us, agency teams see about a 25% improvement in team bond and chemistry—once even rocketing to 300%.

Creative sparks fly more frequently too, with an average 30% boost in creative inspiration, soaring up to 80% in many cases. And when it comes to building remote company culture, some teams have ramped up feelings of engagement and morale by as much as 75%.

Plus, teams gain deeper knowledge of their own individual strengths, weaknesses, and motivators—not to mention the tools we offer managers to leverage the insight of our Hero Type system to better lead employees toward growth, success, and effective collaboration.

Drawing from those results, we calculate the direct financial benefits over one full year of biweekly play using a few very conservative assumptions:

• A 5% increase in productivity from enhanced team communication, synergy, and creativity—plus less time wasted managing interpersonal issues
• A 5% increase in project efficiency due to a better understanding of employee strengths, motivators, and working styles, allowing for smarter human resource allocation and project management
• A 5% reduction in recruitment costs due to a healthier, more inviting and innovative company culture as well as an employer brand that attracts top talent and culture fits
• A 5% reduction in turnover due to higher overall morale and engagement, a culture that prioritizes joy and wellbeing, and a sense of team loyalty to one another and the agency
• And a 5% cut in external training costs as our adventures naturally bolster your team's soft skills and develop them as leaders

When all is said and done, these cost reductions and revenue gains end up equaling to about 10% of a given employee's salary.

With good reason, we can assume that there's no limit to these improvements—meaning, multiple years of sessions could keep steadily increasing these numbers.

Not sure if you'd benefit from these results? Try our Free Remote Culture Assessment—no email required.

QuestWorks can also conceivably eliminate the need for costly in-person retreats as it "replicates" the experience of being together and gets even better results than most meetups—but we don't even incorporate that in the calculation.

Results, of course, are not guaranteed, and you may be currently thinking of all the unique factors at play in your agency that could work against these results. However, the question isn’t whether teambuilding is a worthwhile investment for remote teams—that debate was settled long ago. The question is, which specific teambuilding program is best suited for your company's goals, culture, and desired results? We’re confident that, for most agencies, QuestWorks is the answer.

Best of all, team members actually want to attend QuestWorks games. Can you say that about your other remote teambuilding events? Seriously—someone once showed up while on vacation!

Why do we calculate using average salary?
Referencing the average employee salary not only estimates costs associated with turnover and training but also offers a base to measure the financial benefits of productivity improvements. Essentially, higher salaries often correlate with higher stakes in terms of employee output and recruitment/replacement costs, making salary a core factor in accurately forecasting potential savings and gains from investing in employee development and retention strategies.

Of course, if your employee delivers 100% of their salary in productivity, you've merely broken even—we assume your business model is built for profit. Still, to ensure we are being as conservative as possible in our estimations, the 5% figures above are calculated as a fraction of the average salary rather than profit produced per employee.

Recruitment and turnover rate estimates are based on recent agency-specific data, assuming a 10% hiring rate per year and 30% average turnover. Recruitment and turnover costs are estimated at 20% of the average salary to reflect industry standards.

The real magic, however, lies beyond the numbers.

While our calculator will show you the tangible cash benefits, the intangible ones—like inside jokes on Slack, a palpable sense of camaraderie, ongoing personal development, and collective pride in working somewhere cool enough to offer a perk like this—are what can transform a remote workplace into a powerhouse and foster award-winning work.
